Sunday Working Directive (No 10 Petition Appeal)

Today I received an email regarding the UK Governments working directive for Sunday working.  I obtained the kind permission of the lady who sent out the email, (her husband started the petition) to reproduce her email below.  She kindly consented.  Please read the email below and more importantly, sign the petition online as she writes:  "after contacting an mp to ask for advice when my husband was being forced to work Sundays, against his faith, we were told that the law wouldn’t change because it is seldom brought up as an issue."

Let's be the Church of Jesus Christ and make our increasingly pagan governments take notice of God's Word and start to take a stand on these issues.   Thank you in advance for your support.

To whom it may concern,
I am contacting you, to ask for your help. My husband has put up a petition on the government website, to gain legislation that will give Christians the legal right to NOT have to work on Sundays. At present, the legislation only protects those who work in retail and betting work, and we believe as the law has changed to allow more businesses to open, the laws to protect the rights of Christians have not changed to account for it.
My husband and I are practicing Methodist Christians, attending Swan Bank Methodist Mission in Burslem, Stoke on Trent. This is a subject very close to our hearts, because we believe, as it says in the bible that Sunday should remain a holy day for those who wish to obey God and attend church.
The reason I am contacting you is, because after contacting an mp to ask for advice when my husband was being forced to work Sundays, against his faith, we were told that the law wouldn’t change because it is seldom brought up as an issue. So we are bringing this issue to the attention of the government, in a bid to change the law. We need to get as many people as possible to sign the petition, and this where I need your help. As your church covers a large area of the Christian community, I would like to know if you can please pass on this information to your congregation for people to sign, and to ask people in your congregation/community to pass it on.
I must say that time is of the essence, because the petition is only up for another few weeks, so I need to get this around as many churches as possible to make the government understand how many people Christian or not want this change to happen. It says on the petition what it is for, and when the petition closes, and I would be happy to give you any further information you require.
The link to the petition is http://petitions.number10.gov.uk/GodsSunday
Thank you for taking the time to read this email, and we would greatly appreciate any help you can provide. I look forward to hearing from you.

Yours faithfully

Mrs Amanda Childs
